Chichén Itzá – The House of the Grinding Stone
Chichén Itzá – The House of the Grinding Stone was likely built between 900 and 1200 AD as residences for the upper class, the structure is also known as the House of Metates because of a number of concave grinding stones and fragments that were left in the area. Grinding Stones are used to crush corn and other foods in Mayan food preparation and cooking.
There was also an abundance of pottery chards and earthenware fragments indicating domestic occupation. From the grand architecture and the Atlantean Columns is was surmised that the occupants were of an elite class.
